 Google Analytics
How many people visit "your" site?
It's time to find out!

Hi ...

Ever wonder how many people are visiting your website?  Which pages they are looking at? How long they stay?

Well, you can find out all those answers and more via Google Analytics!

Google Analytics is a free program from Google.
You simply place a line of code on each page you want tracked and then log into your Google account to see the reports!

To Get Started:

  • Create a Google account: www.Google.com
  • Go to the very bottom of the page and click on Business Solutions
  • Click on Analytics
  • Sign up for Google Analytics
  • Fill out the requested information
  • Presto .. you will be given some code that you or your webmaster must place on each page that you want to track.
AND ... Some Crucial Features!

The Dashboard

This is the what you open up to when you access Google Analytics. It is very simple and pretty easy to figure out.  The first thing you see is a graph that gives you information about the origin of your traffic that is arriving on your site. You can set the recording for a long period of time or set it to a specific day.

Here are some of the keywords you will see on the Dashboard:

Visits: How many people have visited your site during a specific period of time.

Pageviews or page impression: How many requests have been made to view your site.

Pageviews/Visit: The average pageview of one visitor

The Bounce Rate:  How many of your website visitors landed on one page and left without visiting any additional pages before a specified time-out occurred.  Note:  a bit different than an email bounce.
Average Time On Site: The time a visitor spends on your site.
New Visits:  Percentage of new visitors that visited your site.

The Visitors

See how many visitors are new and how many are returning visitors.  Know how long they spend on your site and how many visit more than one page. Click on all the options .. there are lots of fun things to discover in this section! Here are just a few....

Overview:  Totals of visits, unique visitors, average pageviews, time on site, bounce rate, new visits, etc.

Map Overlay: See the countries your visitors are from!

Visitor Loyalty:  How many returning visitors do you have?

Traffic Sources

See where all your traffic comes from!

Direct Traffic: This means that someone knew your website address and typed it in and directly arrived on your website without clicking on a link on searching on a search engine.

Referring Sites: A visitor arrived from being referred on someone else's website, newsletter, blog, social network,  etc.

Search Engines: Tells you which visitors found you and came to your site from which search engines, i.e. Google, Yahoo, etc.
Content
This section is similar to the "overview" section except that it relates the  pageviews, unique views, bounce rates, etc to specific pages on your website.  This ability to know which pages are being looked at is quite informative!
Google Analytics go way beyond what you can find for statistics on your web hosting site and what is even better ... they are free!!

You will find other helpful "basics" for your website success in Google.
Take the time to explore all that Google has to offer!
