Ever wonder how many people are visiting your
website? Which pages they are looking at? How
long they stay? Well,
you can find out all those answers and more via Google
Analytics!
Google Analytics is a free program from Google. You
simply place a line of code on each page you want
tracked and then log into your Google account to see
the reports!
To Get Started:
- Create
a Google account: www.Google.com
- Go
to the very bottom of the page and click
on Business Solutions
- Click
on Analytics
- Sign
up for Google Analytics
- Fill
out the requested information
- Presto
.. you will be given some code that you or
your webmaster must place on each page
that you want to track.

The
Dashboard |
This
is the what you open up to when you access
Google Analytics. It is very simple and pretty
easy to figure out. The first thing you
see is a graph that gives you information
about the origin of your traffic that is
arriving on your site. You can set the
recording for a long period of time or set it
to a specific day.
Here are some of the keywords you will see on
the Dashboard: |

Visits:
How many people have visited your site
during a specific period of time. |

Pageviews
or page impression: How many requests have
been made to view your site.

Pageviews/Visit:
The average pageview of one visitor |

The
Bounce Rate: How many of your
website visitors landed on one page and left
without visiting any additional pages before a
specified time-out occurred. Note:
a bit different than an email bounce. |

Average
Time On Site: The time a visitor spends on
your site. |
 |
New
Visits: Percentage of new visitors
that visited your site. |

how many visitors are new and how many are
returning visitors. Know how long they
spend on your site and how many visit more

Overview:
Totals of visits, unique visitors, average

Overlay: See the countries your visitors

Direct
Traffic: This means that someone knew your
website address and typed it in and directly
arrived on your website without clicking on a
link on searching on a search engine. |

Sites: A visitor arrived from being
referred on someone else's website,
newsletter, blog, social network,
etc. |

Search
Engines: Tells you which visitors found
you and came to your site from which search
engines, i.e. Google, Yahoo, etc. |

| Content |
| This
section is similar to the "overview"
section except that it relates the
pageviews, unique views, bounce rates, etc to
specific pages on your website. This
ability to know which pages are being looked
at is quite informative! |

Analytics go way beyond what you can find for
